CARROS Y VICLAS
SPONSOR AND COMMUNITY PARTNER PORTAL
It is said that if people hear the same thing over and over again, over a long period of time, some people will begin to accept it as truth, whether it's a lie or not. For years, powerful people have told America that brown people are easily associated with rape, murder, and drugs. They've minimized the honorable and historic role of Mexican American Chicanos in the story of America and have, for many, distorted truth to an astigmatism. Our kids have been hearing the distortion for years.
The three sponsor and community packages available are the Pachuco Ball Sponsor and Community Partner package, the Calle Cultura Community Presentation package, and the Carros Y Viclas Sponsor and Community Partner package. Each has it's own levels of consideration. There is an event announcement with each of these packets and all sponsor and community partner packets can be accessed for both, viewing and downloading at the portal below. Simply select and view or download the appropriate announcement or packet of your choice.

We emphasize our belief that we can have a positive impact on all people through the celebration of culture through the arts. We believe that all cultures have specific historical elements that are both positive and challenging. These elements help define any one ethnicity and culture. We also belive that in sharing in challenging times, all people, regardless of race, creed. or political leaning, may benefit. This then is where our mantra comes from, "All are welcome, it's about people".

This presentation is a vehicle that speaks to the history, resilience, and determination of the Chicano spirit. The goal is to share the contributions of Mexican American Chicanos through a history of sacrifice, struggle, and survival, and speak to the story and journey of a people. Our target audience is young people and adults who are the beneficiaries of those sacrifices and struggles. The Calle Cultura Educational Presentation is part of a three-day project culminating in a celebratory concert and dance event called the Pachuco Ball, whose mission is to portray, celebrate, and share this culture and journey through the arts, and expressions of music, fashion, and dance.
The Pachuco Ball is also part of a bigger picture project involving cultural education. The other half of the project is the Calle Cultura Community Education Presentation. This is a film and speaker presentation and community forum on the Chicano experience and culture. The forum is an academic discussion with young people and adult community members, which is intended to raise awareness and speak to the history, resiliency, and determination of the Chicano spirit. The forum will use excerpts from a Brandon Loran Maxwell film documentary called AMERICAN HOMEBOY. These film excerpts will be used in conjunction with speaker presentations, and an audience Q&A.
American Homeboy is a documentary film by Brandon Loran Maxwell that explores the origins and complexities of Pachuco and Cholo culture, which emerged from American soil over the past century. Moreover, the American Homeboy film is a portrait of a street revolution. This culture emerged in response to wartime sentiment and social alienation, and the American government's racial discrimination against Chicano people. It's an untold story that seldom heard in the American school system's history, social studies, and political science curricula.
Chicanos In Vietnam
and Isolated Mexican Americans
What Does It Mean to Be A Chicano
This project represents part of the story of America, an intensely diverse puzzle. In the cultural diversity of most American communities, all people and groups have roots, a journey, and a story, regardless of ethnicity. That makes this effort both a community opportunity and an educationally positive way to share history and an informed perspective about the Chicano experience with our community.
